## The short answer

**You can stop when you and your provider decide to, and you can cancel your plan at any time.** What happens to your body afterward has barely been studied. In [one small study of older men](https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7108996/), IGF-1 stayed above baseline 2 weeks after stopping, and we did not find long-term research after that. Any effect tied to treatment may fade, but no good data say how quickly.

## What makes stopping simple

- **Cancel any time.** The [subscription terms](/subscription-terms/) explain how, and when renewals happen.
- **Ask your care team.** You can message them about how to stop and whether follow-up labs make sense.
- **No lock-in on monthly.** The monthly plan is billed one month at a time.

**Considering sermorelin?** A licensed provider reviews your answers and decides whether it is appropriate. See how it compares on price in the [sermorelin price index](/sermorelin-price-index/), or read about the [sermorelin program](/sermorelin/). $120 charged monthly, or $546 every 6 months ($91/mo). Renews automatically; cancel any time. Full refund if a provider does not prescribe. [Subscription terms](/subscription-terms/).

## What the evidence shows

| Source | What it found | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| [Corpas, 1992](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/1379256/), [via this review](https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7108996/) | IGF-1 stayed above baseline 2 weeks after stopping | 10 older men, short treatment periods |
| [Khorram, 1997](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9141536/) | IGF-1 returned toward baseline by week 16, even during treatment | Suggests the rise may not hold over time; 19 adults on a related analog |

Sermorelin works through the pituitary and normal feedback ([Walker, 2006](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18046908/)), which is different from taking HGH directly. See [sermorelin vs HGH](/sermorelin/guides/vs-hgh/). That design argument does not tell you what you will notice when you stop.

## Before you stop

- Tell your provider why you want to stop, such as cost, side effects or no benefit
- Ask whether follow-up labs make sense
- Check your billing date and how to cancel in the [subscription terms](/subscription-terms/)
- Report any unexpected symptoms rather than assuming they are related

## Common questions

### Are sermorelin results permanent?
No evidence shows they are. The studies we reviewed were short and did not follow people long after treatment ended.

### Do I need to taper off sermorelin?
We found no research on tapering. Ask your provider how to stop in your situation.

### Will my body stop making growth hormone?
We found no study showing this happens after sermorelin, but long-term data are lacking. Discuss any concern with your provider, and see [is sermorelin safe?](/sermorelin/guides/is-it-safe/).

### Can I restart later?
A provider would need to review your health again. Refills and restarts depend on your provider's decision.

## Safety at a glance

Reported side effects include flushing, injection site pain or irritation and mild headache. Sermorelin is not recommended in pregnancy or breastfeeding, active cancer or certain pituitary conditions, and long-term safety in adults has not been established.
