Sermorelin for sleep: does it help?
There is a real biological link between growth hormone and deep sleep. That is not the same as evidence that sermorelin improves your sleep.
.md Read this page as Markdown (for AI assistants)The short answer
Growth hormone and deep sleep are genuinely linked, which is why many people ask about sermorelin for sleep. GHRH increased non-REM sleep in a controlled laboratory study after sleep deprivation. But it has not been shown to improve sleep in everyday life, and sleep quality did not change in a 16-week trial of a closely related peptide. If poor sleep is your main concern, have its cause checked by a clinician.

Start your sermorelin visitWhat the evidence shows
| Evidence | What it found | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Sch眉ssler, 2006 | GHRH enhanced non-REM sleep after sleep deprivation | A laboratory study after experimental sleep loss, not a sermorelin insomnia trial |
| Khorram, 1997 | Sleep quality on questionnaires was unchanged in men and women after 16 weeks | 19 older adults; a closely related analog |
| Corpas, 1992, via this review | GH release was higher at night than by day, at every age | Shows when GH is released, not that sleep improved |
IGF-1, the blood marker usually used to track GH activity, rose in the Khorram trial even though sleep quality did not change. So a better lab result does not show better sleep. Our sermorelin guide explains the link in more depth.
Why the claim is so common
The largest GH pulse of the day comes soon after you fall asleep, so it is tempting to assume more GH signalling means better sleep. The controlled evidence above does not support going that far. People may report sleeping better on treatment, but without a placebo group, those reports cannot separate the medication from expectation or other changes.
Common questions
Why is sermorelin taken at night?
Studies including Khorram, 1997 gave it at night, since GH release naturally rises during sleep. Follow your provider's directions on timing.
Can sermorelin cause insomnia?
The studies we reviewed do not establish this either way. Tell your provider if your sleep changes after you start.
Is there a better option for sleep?
That depends on the cause, so it is worth having sleep problems assessed by a clinician, including for conditions such as sleep apnea.
Safety at a glance
Reported side effects include flushing, injection site pain or irritation and mild headache. Sermorelin is not recommended in pregnancy or breastfeeding, active cancer or certain pituitary conditions, and long-term safety in adults has not been established. It is prohibited in tested sports.
